Imposters Improv Play Lab - An Improv Jam
The Imposters Improv Play Lab is an inclusive space for anyone looking to expand their creativity. Improv comedy is the foundation we use to explore how much we can make using nothing but our bodies and imagination. Whether you are new to improv or have been in a troupe since the dawn of Chicago, the Play Lab is a space for us to meddle with our funny.

Improv Rec League + Longform Mashup Jam
Rec League Improv Night features newer, up-and-coming performers at Imposters Theater. Each group chooses/develops their own form and performs a never-before-seen show just for YOU!
After intermission it’s the Longform Improv Mashup Jam - YOUR chance to get up on stage! Sign up during intermission, we’ll mash everyone up into teams, and each team will perform a 10-15 minute set! Four magical improv groups you may never see again.

Standup Basics Workshop with Bill Squire
Comedian Bill Squire has been in comedy for over 20 years. He's performed nationwide in comedy clubs, colleges, theaters, and arenas.
In this 4 week course, Bill will teach the basics of writing and performing Stand-up Comedy to help newer comedians get a jump start on what it takes to write, perform, and get booked to perform stand-up comedy.
This workshop is ideal for absolute beginners and those newer to stand up - Bill will cover topics such as etiquette and joke structure, there will be guided writing exercises, and the workshop ends in a showcase hosted by Bill, where everyone will perform a 3-5 minute set.

Sketch Open Mic
An hour dedicated to testing written comedic material. Whether you’re part of an existing sketch group or dipping your toes in the sketch water this is the place for you to try out new work.
How it works: You can submit as a group or as an individual writer for a 10 minute slot. If you’re a writer, we will find actors for you to read your scripts. Sketches can be presented as stage readings or fully blocked and costumed pieces. Booked acts will receive the run order the week of the show.
How to submit: Fill out this form with your group/individual name, the date you are interested in, and your scripts. All material will be accepted but I am screening for basic crimes against humanity, don’t be a jerk.
For Actors: If you’re interested in reading material, please feel free to submit your availability for upcoming show dates.

Description: This workshop focuses on exercises to generate new material, joke writing structure, and practical ways to punch up your storytelling.
There will also be opportunities to workshop your ideas and jokes and get feedback from the instructor and other participants.
Prerequisites: Any level experience from absolute beginner to advanced. 18+ unless otherwise approved by the instructor.
Supplies: Pen/Pencil & Paper (Required), Laptop/Tablet (Optional)
Refund Policy: No refunds UNLESS we do not reach the 6 person minimum, in which case you will get a full refund or credit toward a future class.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Michael Busch
Originally from Mentor, Ohio, Michael brings over 15 years of experience in the Los Angeles entertainment industry and live comedy scene back to Cleveland to help support and build the vibrant local community. He is a graduate of the IO improv program and has studied at UCB with founders Matt Walsh and Matt Besser, among others. He was on house improv teams at both IO West and UCB, and a sketch house team at UCB. He has written and produced sketches and web series for places such as FunnyorDie, CollegeHumor, AwesomenessTV, and Defy Media. His acting credits include Conan, The Goldbergs, Pretty Little Liars, and Human Giant.
Michael is the founder and Artistic Director of Imposters Theater.

Jumpstart Your Comedy Writing Workshop with Michael Busch
It’s an amazing feeling when inspiration strikes - it seems like we can hardly type fast enough to get all that brilliance from our brains to the page. But to make it as a writer, you have to teach yourself to write when you aren’t inspired as well.
Whether you’re focused on stand up, sketch, storytelling, or general comedic writing, you will walk away with practical ways to get your brain moving when it feels like it’s stuck in park.
There will also be opportunities to workshop your ideas and get feedback from the instructor and other participants.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Originally from Mentor, Ohio, Michael brings 15 years of experience in the Los Angeles entertainment industry and live comedy scene back to Cleveland to help support and build the vibrant local community. He is a graduate of the IO improv program and has studied at UCB with founders Matt Walsh and Matt Besser, among others. He was on house improv teams at both IO West and UCB, and a sketch house team at UCB. He has written and produced sketches and web series for places such as FunnyorDie, CollegeHumor, AwesomenessTV, and Defy Media. His acting credits include Conan, The Goldbergs, Pretty Little Liars, and Human Giant. Since returning to Cleveland, Michael has been teaching improv and sketch writing classes as well as producing and performing in live shows.

Four improvisers will become instant experts on an array of topics as they present absurd PowerPoints they’ve never seen.

Listen to fascinating Ted Talks as you’ve never heard them before - and neither have the performers. Four improvisers will present PowerPoints that they have never seen before in the style of various funny characters and unhinged experts.
Audience members will then have the opportunity to ask these characters about their presentation and even their character lives after each presentation.
CLEVELAND’S COMEDY COURT
We take the audience's problems and put them on trial.
A group of improvisers get someone's problem, and then put that problem on trial with fake attorneys and witnesses for both sides. Guided by a real fake judge to keep things somewhat on the rails.

Mental Illness & Friends Presents Psych Hospital Hope
Mental Illness and Friends, created and hosted by Deena Nyer Mendlowitz, is a live comedy talk-show combining stand-up, improv, and open, honest dialogue with other artists dealing with mental health issues.
Nyer Mendlowitz, who lives with anxiety and suicidal ideation, begins each performance with a new opening monologue, seamlessly weaving mental illness, real life, and laughter together.
Each month she invites other comedians, improv artists, actors, and often a musical guest to perform and share a bit of their own mental health history. This special episode features comedians and storytellers who also happen to have been in a psych hospital.
The hour-long show closes with an improv set based on topics discussed that evening. The results are hilarious, honest, enlightening, empowering, inspiring and leave both the performers and audience feeling a little more connected and understood.

In 2018 she was named one of Ohio's funniest women by Cleveland.com and was also honored as a Cleveland Jewish News Difference Maker for the work she has done using comedy to promote mental health awareness and to destigmatize mental illness. Laugh Tank Live - a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud showdown at Imposters Theater where comedians and improvisers pitch outrageously absurd business ideas to a panel of “investors” in a parody of Shark Tank. From emotional support squirrels to a subscription service for awkward hugs, no idea is too ridiculous—or too passionately sold.
Armed with props, PowerPoints, and pure nonsense, contestants have just a few minutes to convince the panel their harebrained idea deserves funding. The judges vote on the most original and over-the-top pitch of the night, and one “entrepreneur” walks away with $100 cash and eternal bragging rights.

Sketch Open Mic
An hour dedicated to testing written comedic material. Whether you’re part of an existing sketch group or dipping your toes in the sketch water this is the place for you to try out new work.
How it works: You can submit as a group or as an individual writer for a 10 minute slot. If you’re a writer, we will find actors for you to read your scripts. Sketches can be presented as stage readings or fully blocked and costumed pieces. Booked acts will receive the run order the week of the show.
How to submit: Fill out this form with your group/individual name, the date you are interested in, and your scripts. All material will be accepted but I am screening for basic crimes against humanity, don’t be a jerk.

Jester's Privilege - A Silly Drag King Show
Get into the creepy crawly spirit while having a chuckle! Join Cleveland's 5th best drag king, Abel N. Willing, for a special, spooky installment of Jester's Privilege, a silly drag king show. Abel will be joined by Marquis Gaylord, Sir Guy, AndroNTT and Rubber Duckie for a night of laughs and drag.
Abel N. Willing is a Northeast Ohio drag king. He uses his background in sketch comedy to propel his unique and campy performances. In December 2023, he became the first drag king to win Kingpin, one of the nation’s first multi-week drag king competitions. From giving birth to a puppet to impersonating historical figures or even busting out the occasional dance move, Abel always keeps his audience entertained and laughing with his unpredictable, high-energy acts.

Four improvisers will become instant experts on an array of topics as they present absurd PowerPoints they’ve never seen.
Produced by Maria Serra
Listen to fascinating Ted Talks as you’ve never heard them before - and neither have the performers. Four improvisers will present PowerPoints that they have never seen before in the style of various funny characters and unhinged experts.
Audience members will then have the opportunity to ask these characters about their presentation and even their character lives after each presentation.
CLEVELAND’S COMEDY COURT
We take the audience's problems and put them on trial.
A group of improvisers get someone's problem, and then put that problem on trial with fake attorneys and witnesses for both sides. Guided by a real fake judge to keep things somewhat on the rails.

Level 3 is all about enhancing your performance skills while improvising. Students will learn a combination of acting techniques that will get them out of their heads and into their bodies to create character driven improv scenes.

Refund Policy - Classes/Workshops
No refunds UNLESS we do not reach the 8 person minimum, in which case you will get a full refund or credit toward a future class. If you have to drop the class and it’s before the 5th meeting, we will issue a half credit for a future class good for 6 months. If you miss a workshop because of a positive Covid diagnosis, we will give you a credit for a future workshop good for 6 months.
On Earth As It Is In Hell by Andrew Spink
Andrew’s eight-year-old daughter is going to Hell. At least, that’s what she tells him one night when she can’t sleep, bringing Andrew’s worst fears to life. He had grown up afraid of Hell. He had preached about Hell as a pastor. He had left Christianity over Hell. And now, Andrew was struggling to help his daughter feel safe. Then, he finds out that this fear of Hell was instilled in her by his own dad — a fire and brimstone preacher. Just great!
On Earth as it is in Hell follows Andrew’s journey of self-reflection, messy family relationships, and discovering how religious beliefs have impacted everyone for thousands of years – but with jokes! Andrew dives into ancient history to convince his daughter that everything will be okay and ends uplearning just what the hell it is we believe anyway, and how our actions are often scarier than our beliefs. But again, like, in a (mostly) funny way.

ABOUT ANDREW SPINK
Andrew Spink is a comedian, storyteller, and wannabe history buff. Much of his work is informed by his experience leaving organized religion, his struggles parenting two kids, or the constant questioning of his own life choices. He performs comedy all over and has told stories at The Moth, Story Collider, Ignite, RiSK!, Locally Fameless, and the historic Unexpected Productions. After performing at Fringe Festivals in Hamilton, San Diego, and Indianapolis, he has been touring his show all around North America.
Andrew lives in Seattle with his wife and two daughters, where he feels guilty for not being outdoorsy, avoids coffee while frequenting cafes, and walks his dog to fit in with the crowd.

This course is an introduction to long-form improvisation, based on the style developed by The iO Theater and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. We will start with a focus on the fundamentals - agreement, listening, and support - as well as the thing that should come across in every scene: the fun. We will also get into things like establishing the reality of the scene, connecting with your scene partner, and playing with emotion.
This class is designed for absolute beginners up to those with some short form or long form improv experience.
Each week we will develop your group and individual skills through scene work and exercises.
Class ends in a graduation show.

Four improvisers will become instant experts on an array of topics as they present absurd PowerPoints they’ve never seen.

Listen to fascinating Ted Talks as you’ve never heard them before - and neither have the performers. Four improvisers will present PowerPoints that they have never seen before in the style of various funny characters and unhinged experts.
Audience members will then have the opportunity to ask these characters about their presentation and even their character lives after each presentation.
CLEVELAND’S COMEDY COURT
We take the audience's problems and put them on trial.
A group of improvisers get someone's problem, and then put that problem on trial with fake attorneys and witnesses for both sides. Guided by a real fake judge to keep things somewhat on the rails.

Rec League Improv Night features newer, up-and-coming performers at Imposters Theater. Each group chooses/develops their own form and performs a never-before-seen show just for YOU!
After intermission it’s the Longform Improv Mashup Jam - YOUR chance to get up on stage! Sign up during intermission, we’ll mash everyone up into teams, and each team will perform a 10-15 minute set! Four magical improv groups you may never see again.
